Data from Domino 1: Rows ≠ Documents

By Ben Langhinrichs | 10/27/20 4:09 AM | Development - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

A couple of weeks ago, we had a migration customer ask if we could change the way their data was extracted. In this case, we were going to CSV. I can't show their data or structure, but it contained a feature I lot of you will recognize: many, many fields correlated with each other by table rows. Since the customer wanted to retain the row-like association of the various items, we used Repeat By Item, a feature which allows you to export the same document multiple times with each element of a multi-value field or formula, matching up parallel items. We can include the UNID on every line or not, depending on whether we want to maintain the association the data had in Domino.

Domino is used by, you know, actual business people

I must admit, there are times when I obsess too much about obscure little bugs in features that most people don't use. I own that. But then there are times when issues comes up that are absolutely standard business practice that are still FUBAR, and that makes me angry.

When low code is no code - saving space for mobile

By Ben Langhinrichs | 8/14/19 9:26 AM | - | Added by John Oldenburger

This is the second in an occasional series on what you can do right now with Notes/Domino, and some ways our products can help. As before, the top half is general and non-commercial, while the bottom half is where I mention how our products enhance the situation, so you can skip that if you want.

The low code you already know

By Ben Langhinrichs | 8/14/19 2:52 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

Over the next few posts, I hope to show some different features of Notes/Domino which actual customers use, both to suggest things you may not have thought of, and to highlight (after the fold) where our software is important even with these native applications. This first comes from an application a customer developed with the lowest of low code.

HCL - Key concepts going forward

By Ben Langhinrichs | 7/23/19 8:25 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by John Oldenburger

At the recent HCL Factory Tour in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA, there were a number of large roadmap presentations followed by smaller, more focused presentations covering specific topics and products. Slides from all these should be forthcoming soon.

HCL is doing so many things right, but...

By Ben Langhinrichs | 7/3/19 12:58 PM | - | Added by Oliver Busse

Overall, HCL has been doing a terrific job. They have revitalized Notes/Domino and fixed some longstanding bugs. They have worked with business partners better than IBM has in a long time. They have injected hope and enthusiasm, and have mostly met all the deadlines they've set for themselves. They have shown vision and commitment to future versions, and I see customers responding.

2018 an important year for IBM

By Ben Langhinrichs | 1/2/18 3:56 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

I am no expert, so these are my impressions from a slew of outside conversations and insights (right or wrong) gleaned at conferences and on Twitter and Medium. But with those caveats, I think this is going to be a very important year for IBM, as they start to regain profitability and reach the decisive stages of various technologies they have bet on or invested in. These are on no particular order.

Wishes for Notes-Domino 10

By Ben Langhinrichs | 11/9/17 7:13 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

With all the talk, whether optimistic, pessimistic or snarky, about Notes/Domino 10, one thing I haven't heard much is what people wish would be in there. Yes, it will be a new version. Yes, it will be a strong affirmation to those companies still using Notes/Domino that product support will be around for the foreseeable future.

Out of Notes Part 7: MultiDatabase Export

This is the seventh in my series, Out Of Notes (see Part 1 - The Challenge, Part 2 - Capsule Views, Part 3 - ePublish from XPages, Part 4 - Linked Collections, Part 5 - To SharePoint and Part 6 - By a Thread), which shows how the Midas Rich Text LSX can be used to create collections of documents for export.

Internet Site Rules and accessibility to videos

By Ben Langhinrichs | 6/6/13 6:55 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Niklas Heidloff

I realized that an inherent issue with video tutorials on Notes/Domino and other topics is accessibility. There are people who don't hear well, people who don't understand me easily, and people who don't speak English well enough to understand what I am saying while also trying to follow the logic of my fast-paced tutorials.

I wanted to introduce my new site, Mini-Lessons.info, as a place to find brief but useful demos and tutorials on a number of topics.
