Automatic Lock/unlock on opening files

By Femke Goedhart | 5/1/22 2:59 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

HCL released a new version of the HCL Connections desktop plugins last month (March 23rd 2022) that included a new feature: auto locking. Now back in the day when we still had CCM, the automatic prompt to checkout a file or not on opening was a great thing and sorely missed on the normal personal and community files. There, you had to manually lock and unlock each file when opening and closing them if you wanted to prevent others from working on the files simultaneously. So suggestions were made and requests sent in by multiple people. And with the March 2022 release it was finally implemented. There is now the option to be prompted to lock a file on opening it.

This months edition of the global super users / ambassadors call we will be kicking off with the theme of To Doc or not to Doc… Do you use Docs with your HCL Connections or not? And why? What options are there and what are the needs for collaborative (and simultaneous) document editing?

Desktop plug-in for Windows fails on large uploads

By Femke Goedhart | 11/13/20 6:55 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Oliver Busse

At one of my customers we ran into the problem that users were not able to upload files larger than 50MB within the HCL Connections Desktop plug-in for Windows but were able to upload files of up to 1GB (server setting) in the browser. The error users got in the desktop connector was “Server returned bad request (400)” when uploading these larger files. I will post the solution they found (and that I can’t seem to find online) here for others to use in case they run into similar problems.

By Femke Goedhart | 10/29/20 2:57 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Three weeks ago I was able to speak at the virtual DNUG event with Joerg Rafflenbeul on the topic of a program that is very close to my heart. The adoption & guides program at Heitkamp & Thumann. For the last two years I’ve been working one day week with the ‘H&T Connect Guides’ (local superusers/ambassadors) at Heitkamp & Thumann to help them support their colleagues and expand the usage of the HCL Connections platform. Our session is about how this program is set up, what it’s strengths are and also were we feel we still can improve. Today (2PM CDT/8PM CET) we will doing this session again, this time in English at the online Collabsphere conference. If you are interested then please register for the event. It is free of charge!

HCL Connections – Surveys & Rules

By Femke Goedhart | 10/3/19 9:22 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by John Oldenburger

I’m often asked about how to best use the Survey tool in HCL Connections to set up questionnaires or polls. Rules often play an important role and often cause questions. So to document how I do this (for myself as well as others who might benefit), I will write down a few tips below.

So anyone who has anything to do with IBM connections will have already heard this and must be fully aware but yes, the sale of the IBM Collaboration portfolio (including IBM Connections) was finalized by the first of this month. This means that from now on IBM Connections is…. Connections.

IBM Connections explained: Why a “Like” matters!

By Femke Goedhart | 8/1/16 11:12 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Oliver Busse

I often get asked about things in IBM Connections that need some explaining. One of them is the value of using the Like button in IBM Connections and whether people really should use it in a corporate environment. Let me be clear: You should! But in stead of writing another blog on why I decided to do it a little different this time and try my luck on explaining it in a video. I hope this will help!

Salesforce & IBM Connections Integration - Keeping Your Organization Connected

By Femke Goedhart | 2/1/16 2:26 PM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Oliver Busse

With so many solutions touting social capabilities out there and being used for different situations it can be daunting to decide on when to use what and why. Your organization might already have Salesforce, IBM Connections, Sharepoint and solutions like Jira that offer social capabilities but how do you get all these worlds together?

Bringing your IBM Connections files to the user – desktop integration

By Femke Goedhart | 7/29/15 7:05 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by Kenio Carvalho

IBM Connections as a platform is often host to many files. Files can be stored in communities, personal files, folders and / or CCM libraries. An important factor with these files is that users need to be able to work with them quickly and directly and therefore IBM offers not just the browser interface but also a desktop connector and MS Office .

IBM Connections: Default follow on public files is it logical?

By Femke Goedhart | 6/11/15 3:20 AM | Infrastructure - Connections | Added by John Oldenburger

At one of my customers a user complained about the fact that every time he opened a publicly shared file it would automatically ‘follow’ that file. This meant that every subsequent ‘like’, change or comment to that file would show up in his timeline. Of course he could ‘unfollow’ the file but found it irritating that it would follow it at all without him making that conscious decision.
